Taming the Mind
Half Day Course
Burnley Kadampa Buddhist Centre
Saturday 25 Nov, 10am – 1pm
If we make no effort to control our mind it will be in control of us. Learning to tame the ‘wild elephant’ of our mind is the gateway to real happiness.
Unless we make an effort to guide our minds in the direction we want it to go, our mind will be in control of us. However there is an alternative. Buddha used the analogy of a wild elephant running amok to describe an unpeaceful mind and how through meditation we can learn to tame these wild elephant minds.
Mindfulness is a part of our mind that remembers a virtuous object and provides a more helpful way of looking at things. Alertness enables us to see when following a particular train of thought isn’t helpful. We can all learn to guide ourselves into positive ways of thinking by training in mindfulness and alertness.
If through training our mind we find that we can keep a peaceful and happy mind at all times, even in difficult circumstances, this indicates that we have been successful in our training. If we train our mind in this way, everything we encounter will increase our wisdom and mental resilience.
This workshop will include guided meditations, which will help you to develop a peaceful and positive mind so that your year is fulfilling and meaningful. Day Courses are an ideal way to learn more about meditation and inner peace. They are ideal for those who are new to meditation and those who would like to improve.
The cost of the half day course is £12 (GP Centre Card £5). Refreshments are available in our World Peace Cafe during the course.
