Overcoming Stress and Anxiety
Meditation Workshop
Burnley Kadampa Buddhist Centre, Burnley
Saturday 18 August, 10am – 1pm
In this workshop we will look at how meditation can beat stress and anxiety and help us to be more relaxed, peaceful and positive in daily life. We will receive teachings and guided meditations which will give us more helpful and constructive ways of dealing with our stressful situations.
Stress and anxiety are endemic in our busy, fast paced life. We tend to think that situations or people in our life are the causes of our stress or unhappiness, so we then spend a lot of time mentally trying to figure out how to fix those situations or people. This often just makes our mind feel overwhelmed and more worried.
Buddha taught that all our unhappiness, stress and anxiety comes from our mind. More specifically it comes from our unrealistic expectations and our exaggerated views of ourself, people around us and the world in general.
Today we will learn simple meditation techniques that enable us to develop a peaceful mind and eliminate feelings of anxiety and stress. By practising meditation we shall experience a calm, spacious feeling in our mind, and many of our usual problems will fall away. Difficult situations will become easier to deal with, we shall naturally feel warm and well disposed towards other people, and our relationships with others will gradually improve.
This meditation event is open to all. It is suitable for complete beginners and those with some experience.
The cost of the workshop is £12 (GP Centre Card £5).
Refreshments are available in our World Peace Cafe during the workshop. Why not also stay for homemade soup afterwards?
